In 2021, India finally took the first step towards getting semiconductor and display fab manufacturing into the country through a Rs 76,000 crores incentive package. With no local manufacturing, India meets its semiconductors needs through imports, which is estimated to reach around $100 billion by 2025 from the estimate of around $65 billion. Incentives have been lined up for companies engaged in silicon semiconductor fabs, display fabs, sensor fabs, semiconductor packaging and semiconductor design. This decision will boost development of the complete semiconductor ecosystem, ranging from design, fabrication, packaging and testing.
